Super Storm Sandy and Emergency Preparedness

Autumn Greetings!

As the weather turns wetter and more blustery by the day here in the Pacific Northwest, our hearts go out to the residents on the East Coast who anticipate Super Storm Sandy (aptly titled the “Frankenstorm” in time for Halloween.)

In our staff meeting on Friday morning, our team discussed the consequences of this threatening weather-related catastrophe, hoping that friends and family members in the Northeast will survive the storm unscathed.   In addition, this weekend’s 7.7 magnitude earthquake off the coast of British Columbia reminded us that our region is also always at risk of damage from major natural disasters.

So, whether it is winter weather or a natural catastrophe, it’s never too early to be prepared.

Here are few helpful links to our Blog where you can find tips to be ready for the curveballs that Mother Nature may throw at you over the next few months:

Practice the “Drop, Cover and Hold On” drill with your family.  And while you’re at it, why not make a game out of it and practice fire drills as well?  And, if you are interested, please give us a call about Earthquake Insurance. Most homeowners insurance companies have excluded earthquake from their basic home insurance package, potentially leaving you with serious gaps in case a quake strikes.

Flood Insurance – Did you know that the risk for a home to be destroyed in a fire is 10%, but the risk for the same home to be destroyed in a flood is 26%?  The home doesn’t need to be located in a flood zone to be at risk!  There is a 30-day waiting period on flood insurance, so look into it now, before the rain really starts.

Please don’t hesitate to give us a call if you have any questions about your insurance.  We’re here to help!
