Support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Snohomish County

This month, please join us in learning more about Big Brothers Big Sisters of Snohomish County (BBBS)!

BBBS is the nation’s largest youth mentoring organization, serving at-risk children who live in  poverty, foster care, or single-parent households, have an incarcerated parent or, for whatever reason, are struggling in school.

BBBS has made it its sole purpose to serve youth ages 6 – 18, both through group-based programs and one-on-one mentoring opportunities.

One-on-one mentoring includes social activities of child and mentor within the community (often referred to as “little” and “big” sister / brother.)  This could be a workout, movie or library and ice cream date (it certainly helps that BBBS fosters a unique affiliation with the Snohomish County YMCA.)

Alternatively, volunteers can sign up to lead a group mentoring program.  This often happens in cooperation with a local school and includes activities such as book clubs, “Sparks Club” (in which students discover and nourish their unique talents and interests with the help of a mentor) or mentoring for high-school students with a focus on graduation and post-graduation.

Nick has been volunteering with BBBS since 2013 as a “Big Brother” mentor and book club leader for the 2nd and 3rd grade students of Madison Elementary in Everett.  He has experienced ‘his’ children’s progress first-hand:  Even a seemingly small weekly structure and ‘talk-time,’ such as a book club, gives the students a boost of confidence, motivation and sense of connection.

BBBS is always in need of more “Big Brothers” and “Big Sisters.” Interested?  Give us a call at 425.379.9200 and we’ll connect you, or simply click here.

Not ready to volunteer at this time? No problem!  This month, you can easily support Big Brothers / Big Sisters of Snohomish County, simply by referring a friend for an insurance review.  Tell them about our agency – when they call and mention your name (no worries, we always ask), we will make a $25 donation to BBBS Snohomish County.
